- 1 pound Dried Navy Beans (454 grams) - 1/2 cup Molasses (120 milliliters) - 1/3 cup Brown Sugar (67 grams) - 2 tbps Mustard (30 milliliters) - Salt
1. Soak Beans: Rinse 1 lb dried navy beans and soak overnight (8 hours). 2. Preheat Oven: Set oven to 300°F (150°C). 3. Combine Ingredients: Mix soaked beans, 1/2 cup molasses, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 2 tbsp mustard, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, and 4 cups water in a large oven-safe pot. Add onion and bacon if desired.
4. Bake: Cover pot, bake for 6-8 hours until beans are tender and sauce thickens, adding water if necessary. 5. Check Doneness: Test beans after 6 hours, continue cooking for desired consistency. 6. Adjust Seasoning: Taste and adjust salt, sugar, or mustard. 7. Serve: Let beans cool, serve as side or main dish with cornbread, coleslaw, or grilled meats.
