Hey there, fellow food lovers! Austin Carter from Beyond the Bayou Blog here. Today, I will share my Buttermilk Ranch Dressing Recipe. This isn’t just any old dressing – it’s a little piece of my culinary journey.

I remember the first time I tried to make ranch dressing from scratch. Let’s just say it was a disaster that ended with me covered in herbs and my kitchen smelling like a garlic factory. My roommates still tease me about it!

But after some practice (and a lot of taste-testing), I’ve perfected this creamy, tangy goodness. It’s become my secret weapon for livening up salads, jazzing up sandwiches, and even as a dip for late-night snacks.

This recipe is simple, adaptable, and packs way more flavor than the store-bought stuff. Trust me, once you try it, you’ll never go back to the bottled version. So, let’s dive in and make some ranch magic together!

Variations that Are Sure to Try!

  • Buttermilk Blue Cheese Dressing: Transform this buttermilk ranch dressing into a tangy blue cheese version by reducing the ranch seasoning to 1/2 tablespoon and adding 1/4 cup of blue cheese crumbles.
  • Greek Buttermilk Dressing: Create a Greek-inspired buttermilk dressing by replacing the ranch seasoning with one minced garlic clove, one teaspoon of dried dill, and 1/4 cup of feta cheese crumbles.
  • Mexican Buttermilk Dressing: Spice up taco night with this Mexican twist. Use on tacos, burritos, or taco salads. Swap lemon juice for lime juice, reduce ranch seasoning to 1/2 tablespoon, add 1 teaspoon dried cumin, 1 teaspoon chili powder (or chipotle chili powder), and fresh cilantro to taste.
  • Buttermilk Substitute: If you don’t have buttermilk, use whole milk, or 1% or 2% milk. Increase lemon juice to maintain tanginess.
  • Garlic Options: Use 3/4 to 1 teaspoon of garlic powder if fresh garlic isn’t available.
  • Fresh Herbs: While fresh herbs are ideal, they can be costly. Store-bought ranch dressing can be more economical than buying a whole bunch of fresh herbs for one batch.
