What Are Oyster Crackers?

Oyster crackers are small, bite-sized, salted crackers that are typically round or hexagonal in shape. They are known for their crisp texture and mild flavor. The name “oyster cracker” is believed to have originated from their traditional use as a companion to oyster stew or chowder, where they are often added as a crunchy topping or served alongside the soup.

These crackers are made from simple ingredients, including flour, water, yeast, and salt. Some variations may include additional seasonings for flavor enhancement. Oyster crackers are versatile and can be enjoyed in various ways beyond seafood dishes. They make for a popular snack on their own or can be added to soups, and salads, or used as a crunchy element in party mixes.

Their small size and neutral taste make them a versatile choice, complementing both sweet and savory flavors. Oyster crackers have become a staple in many households and are appreciated for their simplicity and ability to add a satisfying crunch to a variety of dishes.
