Hey there, folks! Austin Carter here from Beyond the Bayou Blog. Today, I’m sharing my go-to Pot Roast Seasoning recipe with y’all. This blend has become a staple in my kitchen, and it all started with a funny cooking mishap.

A few years back, I was trying to impress my in-laws with a Sunday pot roast. In my nervous rush, I realized I’d forgotten to buy a pre-made seasoning mix. Panic set in until I remembered my grandma’s advice: “A good cook can make magic with what’s in the spice rack.” So, I started mixing and tasting until I stumbled upon this perfect combination.

What I love about this seasoning is how it transforms a simple pot roast into something special. It’s got just the right balance of flavors to complement the meat without overpowering it. Plus, it’s so easy to make in bulk, that you’ll always have some on hand for those last-minute dinner plans.

Let’s get mixing and make your next pot roast unforgettable!

Customize Your Pot Roast Seasoning!

  • Add More Heat: For extra spice, add cayenne pepper or increase the amount of red pepper flakes.
  • Reduce Sodium: For a salt-free blend, omit the salt. Use less salt for a low-sodium option.
  • Add Umami: To make the blend more savory, crumble a high-quality organic bouillon cube (beef, chicken, or vegetable) and add it to your spice mix.
  • Incorporate Other Spices: Feel free to add spices you like, such as ground cumin, ground coriander, marjoram, rosemary, mustard powder, dried basil, dried tarragon, or bay leaves.

Store Your Seasoning This Way!

  • Proper Storage: Keep your spice blend in a dry, cool place like your pantry or spice cabinet. A glass mason jar with a metal lid, or any airtight plastic or glass container, works well.
  • Shelf Life: Pot roast seasoning can be stored indefinitely if made with fresh spices before their expiration date. According to the USDA, ground spices last 2-3 years. Making a large batch will ensure you have flavorful seasoning for many months.
  • Prevent Clumping: If your seasoning mix clumps, simply stir it with a fork. This is common, especially if you live at sea level.
