Simple & Savory Tater Tot Hotdish Recipe
Equipment
- Baking Dish
- Cutting Board
- Mixing Bowls
- Wooden Spoon
- Measuring Cups
- Oven
Ingredients
- 1 bag Tater Tots approx 32 oz
- 1 small onion diced
- 10 ½ ounces cream of mushroom soup
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
- 2 ½ cups cheddar cheese shredded and divided
- salt & pepper to taste
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ cup sour cream
- 2 cups mixed vegetables fresh or frozen
- 1 pound lean ground beef
Instructions
- Fire up the oven to a cozy 400°F. While it's warming up, give some love to a 9×13" casserole dish – a quick grease should do.
- On the stove, medium heat is your friend. Brown up the ground beef and onion until there's no pink left. If there's any extra fat, drain it away.
- Grab a bowl and do a happy dance by mixing soup, sour cream, milk, garlic powder, dry mustard, ½ cup of cheese, salt, and pepper. It's the magic sauce.
- Back to the casserole dish – unite the beef, soup mix, and mixed veggies. Now, here comes the star – layer those tater tots on top like they're the VIPs and sprinkle the remaining cheese.
- Wrap it up with foil and let it mingle in the oven for 30 minutes. Then, unveil the deliciousness, and let it bask in the heat for an extra 20 minutes until it's golden and bubbly.

Times for The Tips!
- Tater Tot Arrangement: When layering those tots, think of it like a cozy potato blanket on top. Don’t just dump them – spread them evenly for that perfect golden crispiness.
- Cheese Chronicles: Feel free to play with cheese varieties. A mix of sharp cheddar and mozzarella can elevate the gooey factor. Experiment and find your cheesy bliss!
- Creamy Consistency: Ensure your soup mixture is well-blended for a creamy texture that hugs every ingredient. No one wants a soup surprise in one corner and dryness in another!
- Veggie Ventures: While the recipe calls for mixed veggies, don’t shy away from personalizing. Bell peppers, mushrooms, or even a handful of spinach – make it a veggie party that suits your taste.
- Golden Grand Finale: When you unveil your hotdish after the foil time, keep an eye on that golden hue. That’s the secret to the perfect crunch without going too crispy on top.
- Serve with Sass: Once it’s out of the oven, let it sit for a bit before serving. It helps everything settle, and you won’t risk burning your eager taste buds.
