Hey! I am Anne Carter, today I am here to share with you an interesting recipe “White Frosting Recipe” through “Beyond the Bayou Blog”. I used to make this recipe in my childhood. It’s a personal favorite dish of mine and my best friend.
Whenever she came to my place we used to make white frosting with Oatmeal Coconut Cookies, white cake, and so on. It’s super easy to make and tastes absolutely delicious! Whether you’re frosting a cake, cupcakes, or cookies, this recipe will add the perfect finishing touch to your baked treats.
To make this white frosting, you’ll only need a few simple ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen. It’s creamy, smooth, and just the right amount of sweet. Plus, you can customize it with different flavor extracts to suit your taste preferences.
Creamy White Frosting Recipe
Equipment
- Mixing Bowl
- Electric mixer
- Spatula
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Sifter or Sieve
Ingredients
- 1 cup Butter
- 3 cup Powdered Sugar
- 2 tbps Vanilla Extract
- 4 tbps Heavy Cream
- 1 tbps Lemon Juice or Zest
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Ensure that the butter is softened to room temperature. Sift the powdered sugar to remove any lumps. Measure out the vanilla extract, heavy cream or milk, and any optional flavorings.
- Cream the Butter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter using an electric mixer on medium speed until it is creamy and smooth. This usually takes about 2-3 minutes.
- Add Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar to the creamed butter, one cup at a time, while continuing to mix on low speed. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula as needed to ensure thorough mixing.
- Incorporate Vanilla and Liquid: Once all the powdered sugar is incorporated and the mixture is smooth, add the vanilla extract and mix until combined. Then, slowly add the heavy cream or milk, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency. Beat on medium-high speed for 2-3 minutes until the frosting is light and fluffy.
- Adjust Consistency: If the frosting is too thick, add more heavy cream or milk, a teaspoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar, a tablespoon at a time, until it thickens.
- Optional Flavorings: If you're using optional flavorings like salt, lemon juice/zest, or almond extract, add them to the frosting at this stage and mix until well combined.
- Final Adjustments: Taste the frosting and adjust the sweetness or flavorings as desired. Add more powdered sugar if it's not sweet enough, or more flavorings for additional taste.

Time for the Tips!
- Flavor Variations: Experiment with different flavorings such as almond extract, lemon zest, or cocoa powder to customize the taste of your frosting.
- Decorating: Use piping bags and tips to create decorative designs on cakes and cupcakes. You can also use spatulas and knives for spreading the frosting smoothly over baked goods.
- Dairy-Free Options: Substitute dairy-free margarine or shortening for butter and non-dairy milk for heavy cream to make a dairy-free version of white frosting.
- Butter Temperature: Ensure that the butter is softened to room temperature before making the frosting. Softened butter blends more easily and creates a smoother texture.
- Avoid Overmixing: Be cautious not to overmix the frosting, as this can cause it to become too soft or airy. Mix just until all ingredients are combined and the frosting is smooth.
- Sifting Powdered Sugar: Sifting powdered sugar helps remove any lumps and ensures a smoother texture in the frosting. It’s a good practice to sift the sugar before adding it to the butter.
- Room Temperature Ingredients: Using room temperature ingredients helps achieve a smoother and more consistent frosting texture. This includes butter and any liquids like milk or cream.
